Here are pictures taken by Daniel Saulnier of the Sophomore Environmental Science Class while on the annual learning expedition.
Day 1 – Stop #1 – Testing Site #1
Plymoth, New Hampshire – The Pemigewassett River




Oranges are placed in the current to check the velocity of the river.









Students search for marco invertebrates, insect-like organisms, in the water and then identify their results. With this information the students can gain a general understanding of the rivers water quality.

At every stop along the river, students need to locate their position using maps, map plotters and GPS units. They can also find out distances that the need to travel along the river using navigational string.

Mr. Saulnier and Mr. King demonstrates to students the proper way to throw and catch a safety line. Students later took turns throwing catching the lines.



Day 2 – Stop #4 – Test Site #2

There was trouble with the orange experiment here as the camp site was located in an eddy and there was no current.

Students had do nine different test to check the quality of the water at each test site. The results that are gathered give the students a specific understanding of the river’s water quality.

Students had to set up these tents every day along with the green tarp which can be seen in this picture behind the tents.

On this trip 8 wooden canvas canoes and 1 plastic canoe were used.

Day 3 – Stop #5 – Test Site #3
Franklin, New Hampshire – The Pemigewassett River

Students were unable to travel in canoes from Bristol to this point because of the dam you see in this picture.

Students were unable to travel in canoes down the river from this point because of a flood warning.

Students were constantly on the lookout for wildlife on the river. This is Chris holding a baby Snapping Turtle.
